Srinagar, Jun 03 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory is witnessing a significant improvement in healthcare facilities which are being further enhanced to provide better healthcare infrastructure to the people, Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, said on Saturday. Talking to reporters after inaugurating the Cath lab and CT scan at Ujala Hospital here, the LG’s Advisor, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that more hospitals are in the pipeline to provide comprehensive healthcare facilities to people of J&K. The health department has done well during the Covid-19 pandemic and facilities are further being enhanced so as to meet international standards, he said, adding, “With the establishment of two AIIMS, several medical colleges, bone and joint hospitals and cancer institutes, J&K is witnessing significant improvement in healthcare infrastructure and facilities.” These medical colleges will cater to the increasing demand for healthcare professionals in the UT besides contributing to medical education, Bhatnagar said. He said that private hospitals like Ujala have been contributing in the development of healthcare facilities. "Under the new industrial policy, more private hospitals are also being established in UT and these hospitals will also contribute to the development of healthcare facilities here,” he added. Highlighting the contribution of the health department, the Advisor said the government is working to provide quality healthcare with specialised facilities to the people at PHC, CHC and district hospital levels. He said ambulances of the health department are ferrying patients from every nook and corner to health care institutions. Asked about the staff shortage at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Chanapora, the LG’s Advisor said he will “definitely look into it”—(KNO)
